Organic squash: the queen of Fall vegetables
Did you know that squash was domesticated by the indigenous peoples of America about 10,000 years ago, thousands of years before corn? Even today, we enjoy its many advantages: a remarkable shelf life, many nutritional properties and great versatility in the kitchen.
Butternut, acorn and spaghetti squash: our three favorites
At PurDelys, the harvest season brings a trio of irresistible favorites: butternut, acorn, and spaghetti squash. From late September through November, these vibrant varieties are hand-selected for their rich flavor, wholesome nutrition, and natural hardiness. Perfect for cozy fall meals, they’re as delicious as they are nourishing.
Grown organically and free from synthetic pesticides, our squashes reflect our deep commitment to respecting nature. At PurDelys, we believe that caring for the planet and caring for people go hand in hand.
Even better, these flavorful treasures are grown to last — they stay fresh for several weeks and can keep up to six months (or more!) when stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated space. A delicious taste of the season you can enjoy all autumn long.
Nutritional properties to make some vegetables blush
Winter squash is rich in vitamin A, which supports the proper functioning of the immune system and vision. They also contain potassium, manganese, copper and folate, and vitamins B6, B2 and C. Their high fibre content also promotes a healthy microbiota and helps prevent cardiovascular disease. The icing on the cake: the presence of several antioxidants.
In soup, roasted… or for dessert!
Butternut squash is perhaps the most versatile of all squashes. Its naturally mild, slightly sweet flavor makes it perfect for roasting, blending into soups and stews, or adding a wholesome touch to your favorite baked goods. From cakes and muffins to cookies, pies, and even cheesecake, it brings both moisture and nutritious goodness to every recipe.
Acorn squash, slightly sweet and spicy, is excellent in soups, grilled, stuffed or incorporated into stews.
Spaghetti squash is well known for being a healthy substitute for wheat pasta. It is also delicious in soup.
No Waste, All Flavor: Creative Ways to Enjoy Every Bit of Your Squash
Who says only pumpkin seeds deserve the spotlight? All squash seeds make a crunchy, satisfying snack. Just toss them with a drizzle of oil, a pinch of salt and pepper—or your favorite spices—and roast them to golden perfection. Packed with omega-3s, they’re a tasty way to support bladder, prostate, bone, and brain health.
And don’t toss those peels! If you prefer peeling your squash before cooking, simply season the peelings and roast them for a batch of crisp, guilt-free chips.
At PurDelys, we believe every part of the squash deserves to shine.
From peel to seed, it’s all delicious indeed!
