How PurDelys is facing the new weather challenges of climate change

A very rainy spring, an exceptionally dry summer… The year 2025 was marked by rare weather extremes that are expected to become increasingly common due to climate change, which is disrupting weather systems. For farmers, this roller-coaster weather creates new challenges that force them to constantly adapt.

PurDélys: organic vegetables at their healthiest and finest

At the PurDélys family farm, the situation is under control. “Having land spread across seven different zones in Montérégie and working with other farming partners to grow our vegetables, we control climate risk well,” explains Denis DesGroseilliers, President and CEO of PurDélys. ” In general, we even had an exceptional season this year in most crops, despite an average below-normal precipitation in southern Quebec and a very hot summer. “

What if organic crops did better?

Producers who have opted for organic farming often seem to do better than producers in conventional farming. They know how to constantly deal with the ups and downs of Mother Nature and avoid possible problems.
“In organic farming, prevention is always key,” says DesGroseilliers. “We are used to working with nature, even if it is becoming less stable with climate change.”
PurDélys has therefore done very well this year, especially by wisely managing its water reserves to irrigate its key crops during this hot, dry summer.

Organic land itself also has a better capacity to adapt. “Since we grow organically, we have to constantly pay close attention to the health, structure and composition of our soils,” says DesGroseilliers. “The soils of our land, which are very rich in organic matter thanks to cultivation cycles that span several years for each field, are thus more resilient to sudden excess rainfall or, on the contrary, to episodes of drought.“
PurDélys’ philosophy is therefore to remain in balance and harmony with nature, no matter how changeable it may be. “We adapt, we respect it and, through our actions, we try to preserve this precious resource.”
